22 Years -- Cocaine Conspiracy

Renea Darby, prisoner of the drug war
I was charged with three counts of a ten count indictment.(counts 1, 6, 7, ) I was found not guilty on count seven by a jury. The government charged me with that count to enhance my sentence by two points, giving me more time. The role the government said I played in this case was "a mule".

The jury found me not guilty for guns, which was count 7, so why was I enhanced 2 points? As the law states, a person should be tried fairly and equally. This is the land of liberty. Liberty means freedom from confinement. A murderer does not receive a 22 year sentence, even if they do, they might only serve 13 years after parole. I have served 16 years and 5 months.

I was pregnant with my first child when I got arrested; he is now 15 years old. He is being cared for by my 70-year-old mother, who is not in good health. I have rehabilitated myself spiritually, mentally, and educationally. I am not a threat to society, I am a citizen of the United States who made a bad choice and is seeking help.

I feel I was not tried fairly and sentenced correctly by the courts. This country is suppose to be the land of liberty. I believe in America, and I feel that an unjust law can be corrected to a just law.

I am a first time non-violent offender asking for another chance. I pray that you will help me, and I will have the chance to raise my son.

God bless you, Renea Darby
