Journey for Justice Pictures

November 16, 2003 -- Tacoma, WA

Rally and march to close The School of the Americas (SOA), in solidarity with SOA Watch, Veterans for Peace of Colville, WA, Peace and Justice Action League (PJALS) of Spokane, WA, and others

An estimated crowd of 1000 or more braved the near-freezing cold and driving rain of a Tacoma, WA winter to march in protest against the continuing existence of the School of the Americas (SOA - now called the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, at Ft. Benning, GA), where "counter-insurgency" techniques are taught to soldiers and other agents of brutal Latin American dictatorships. SOA and its "graduates" have been implicated in the death and torture of untold numbers of Latin American citizens.

The Raging Grannies of Seattle bring their unique brand of protest songs

The two-and-a-half mile march to the Tacoma Federal Building begins, with black coffins representing 'Victims of U.S. Imperialism', and white crosses for the many innocent victims of SOA graduates

PJALS member Doug Hockin, and college roommates Jana and Doug's daughter Ariel hold a soaking wet TNC banner during the march

November Coalition neighbors Sean Daley and Milton Spidell of Veterans for Peace of Colville

At the end of the march: the audience collects for a finale of street theatre and protest

As a final gesture, hundreds of crosses representing victims of SOA graduates are laid to rest on the doorstep of the Tacoma, WA Federal Building
